From the artist, “Happy New Year is a personal meditation on my future. It has symbolism related to my past/present/future. It is a double self portrait that began on the eve of a new year. I was examining where I was and what my future holds. The red thread stitched into the canvas is for my lifeline. The title is an insincere take on how I view my future, with little hope and lots of pessimism. The application of drips, wax medium, and abstract mark making is also in the mood of a depressive outlook on the future, and the self.
